My background
Everything started when I was 7 years old. During a school trip, a friend took along their Gameboy (yes, that old thing - at that time that was top notch technology) with the game Mario Land. I was immediately addicted. Soon, I got myself a NES (I kept saving money I received from relatives) and signed up for the Nintendo magazine. There, I found an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario. That was the starting point of my interest in Japan, its language and culture.
Today, I live in Fukui, Japan, with my Japanese husband and our son. I write language learning books and teach Japanese the way I wished someone had taught to me.
However, my language learning journey was at times not as smooth as it could have been. Several language schools and universities inside and outside of Japan helped me understand what a good language learning setting was - and what was not.
My goal behind starting to teach Japanese was to combine my personal experiences while learning and teaching the Japanese language and come up with an efficient and easy to understand approach to learn all sections of a language. Reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Today, with over 15 years of teaching and 20 years of learning, I can offer you a completely different experience that proves Japanese can be mastered even though you are not a language learning genius.
